Below are some links to things I use, like or had a hand in making.

Software & Web Services

Productivity

I have gone through a lot of web services trying to find my optimal solution, but always ran into a few deal breakers. Whether that was questionable company practices, lack of certain features, pricing, or simply not enough flexibility, the below services are the ones I have been able to rely on.

  • Fastmail: Brilliant email service. Just oldschool, fast, and simple. With a sprinkle of calendars, contacts, notes, and files (even a simple website host!) using open standards.

  • BackBlaze B2: Simple object storage that allows the right amount of flexibility. Pairs nicely with Mountain Duck and Cyberduck.

Desktop

While I use a lot of different tools throughout my day, the below are some notable hidden gems.

Mobile

I don’t really venture out much on the apps used on my phone, especially since I have gone back to using an iPhone. However, the below are some that have made using an iPhone easier.

  • S3 Files: Used to connect to my B2 buckets. Simple and just works.

Hardware

  • Fairphone: How smartphones should be.

  • Fairbuds: How earbuds should be. Quality audio and repairability. Less eWaste.

Podcasts

Below is a curated list, which changes frequently, of podcasts I enjoy. While the actual list of podcasts I follow is much longer, there are a few that I almost never listen to or only enjoy specific episode topics and guests.

The list is in roughly the order of preference.

YouTube Content

Channels run by individuals or organisations where I enjoy some of the content uploaded. Like with the podcasts, I watch other channels as well, but these are the ones I come back to the most often.

Travel

  • Yes Theory: Content that mixes travel with documentaries about kindness, seeking discomfort, and bettering yourself and others around you.

  • OneBag Travels: Phenomenal bag reviews.

  • Nomads Nation: While Aaron and I don’t agree on certain styles of bags or size of bags for EDC, he knows his stuff.

Documentaries

  • Ghost Town Living: A channel run by a lad who bought an abandoned mining town and is now trying to revive it - while telling everyone about the history of the town as he discovers it.

  • Patagonia Films: Great documentaries on earth, society, and humanity.
